Microbial Fuel Cell Reactor

MFC reactor with electrodes and current collector for electricity generation from organic wastes (human/animal faeces, kitchen waste, wastewater).

Manufacturer

LEEC

Model

MFC

Location

LEEC Laboratory

Technical Specifications

  • Reactor, electrodes, current collector

Usage & Applications

  • Converting chemical energy of organic waste into electrical energy via microbial activity.
  • Research on energy harvesting from human/animal faeces, kitchen waste and wastewater.
  • Comparative studies (cow dung ≈ 353 mW/m² vs human faeces ≈ 118.3 mW/m²).
  • Wastewater treatment and bio-fertilizer / hydrogen production studies.

Experimental procedure:

1. Load organic substrate into the reactor. 2. Insert electrodes and connect current collector. 3. Monitor open-circuit voltage and load current. 4. Optionally stack cells and connect power management system to charge a battery.
